Chime Super Deluxe hits PSN

They say that music games are dead, but perhaps one should think a bit more inside the box, or more specifically the rectangle.  There’s no rule that music can only be created via plastic instruments and Zoë Mode Entertainment sets out to prove it with Chime Super Deluxe.

A music/puzzle combination reminiscent of games like Lumines, players are charged with creating rectangle “quads” from the Tetris-like pieces at their disposal on a larger grid. Though the final goal of 100% grid coverage is constant, the remix that gets you there varies based on the player’s decisions, making every experience unique.

A game with fundamentally simple gameplay elements, the joy comes in experimenting throughout the levels to compose a unique remix each time. Possibilities are endless, with music contribution from Sabrepulse, Plaid, Shlomo, Nathan McCree and Joe Hogan. Players are also able to take their tunes in their own hands, constantly creating new remixes while working against the clock.

While players work toward full grid completion, their creation plays in the background, updating itself with every additional quad. This tiny hint of the final product can allow players to see their effect on the final product in real time.

The game includes a new multiplayer and Co-op option for gamers to experience with friends, as well as a smooth interface to make this version the most refined possible.

So step away from the plastic guitar friends, and dust off that old controller for some classic puzzler fun as “playing on the Grid” finds a new meaning in this indie offering.

Chime Super Deluxe is available now exclusively on the Playstation Network priced at $9.99.
