Seeing as I have been a PlayStation Underground member for several years now I was granted access to beta test the PlayStation Rewards Program. Well I got a notification that Sony is going to hold off on launching the program. They haven’t indicated when or if they will launch the program to the public any time soon only that they want to work on it some more.
The program was set set to basically monitor a player’s activity on the PlayStation Network through purchases from the PlayStation Store, or just from playing newly released games. Some the perks was the ability to enter into contest drawings or members could win exclusive avatar pictures for their game ID based on the level a member has reached in the rewards program.
From my experience I didn’t really see a point for it. It basically felt like a marketing research experiment that I was actually aware of. The only way to really “level up” in the program is to purchase newly released games right out of the package, not used, or to purchase many games in the PlayStation Store. Since I’m not one that spends money like that I wasn’t really seeing the “rewards” part of the program. And what rewards that were available weren’t very impressive, granted it was just a beta so the offerings might be better when the program launches. We’ll keep an ear open and see if Sony will fully impliment this rewards program in the future.
