If there was a theme for Konami’s Pre-E3 press conference it would have to be “HD Collections”. Oh don’t get me wrong they talked about new games like Pro-Evolution Soccer 2012, Silent Hill: Downpour, Silent Hill: Book of Memories (for the NGP) and their new IP NeverDead but a noticeable constant of the show was the mention of not one but THREE series titles getting HD remakes. The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will consist of MGS 2: Sons of Liberty, MGS3: Snake Eater, and MGS: Peace Walker upgraded for play on the PS3 & XBOX 360. Also getting the HD shine is The Silent Hill Collection which will have Silent Hill 2 & 3 (sadly not the first one). And finally while a much anticipated sequel was not announced an HD collection for Zone of the Enders 1 & 2 will be available for both PS3 and 360.
Another big part of the conference was featuring Hideo Kojima and his GENIUS creation of a game transferring system called TRANSFARRING. Yes, I spelled that correctly. According to Kojima this is something he developed to transfer game save files from the PS3 to a PSP or NGP and continue playing the game on the go. Once you are back home you can transfer the game back to the PS3 and continue where you left off, essentially allowing you to play your single game file all day. It sounds great and is something I had wished was available to the PSP a long time ago but leave it to Kojima to make it happen. This could be a feature that if implemented into many titles it could be a huge selling factor for gamers to get an NGP to compliment their PS3’s. I know Hideo Kojima will not be at E3 but I do hope that someone from Konami shows off this feature at the Sony press conference, they’d be foolish not to live demo it. And to top it all off Kojima revealed that he is developing a new gaming engine called FOX engine. He didn’t say much about it but he showed just a tiny little bit of it, something to whet the palate as it were.
I personally am excited for all the Silent Hill goodies coming out but I still have questions about this Transfarring feature. Hopefully we will get a lot more info about the process in the next coming days. You can check out the video below of Kojima’s announcement and explanation of Transfarring and keep it here at Bifuteki for E3 2011 coverage.
