uma, the leading innovator in semantic web technology, today announced that they have developed and installed a next-generation digital signage solution based on Intel® Technology at the 109th American International Toy Fair in New York, which runs from February 12-15 at the Jakob K. Javits Center in New York City. The interactive multitouch display, based on the uma SKIN™ (Semantic Knowledge Information Network) semantic display product, will enable the 30,000+ visitors to access information, including videos and apps, related to the Toy Fair on a 3.6 meter long and 2.1 meter high interactive multitouch wall situated in the main concourse of the Javits Center.

The multitouch wall, named ‘Fair Necessities,’ features the Intel® Audience Impression Metrics Suite (Intel® AIM Suite), which will enable Toy Fair to better understand characteristics of the wall’s users, including gender, age, interests, impressions, and other demographics. Toy Fair 2012 exhibitors who include their listing on the wall will be touched by buyers and others who are at the show to scope out more than 100,000 hot new toys and play products on display.
The installation marks the North American debut for the uma SKIN product, which uma has seen tremendous interest for in Europe, having launched the product in 2011 with the stunning Siemens Identity Display multitouch wall at Siemens headquarters in Austria. Uma has also deployed its uma SKIN solution with Otto Group’s SportScheck, the leading German sports retailer and, recently, Bally, which has created an in-store system showcase for customers that was unveiled at the Milan Men’s Fashion Week event. Several German and Austrian conferences have also installed uma SKIN as next-generation information kiosks.
Owned and operated by the Toy Industry Association (TIA), the Toy Fair is the largest toy trade show in the Western Hemisphere.

Intel® AIM Suite includes analytics tools, such as Intel® AIM Analytics – that enable customers to perform audience measurement for their digital signage networks by providing statistical information, including relevant customer behavior criteria. Intel AIM Suite data can be merged with other data sources, including people counting and point-of-purchase (POS) systems, for richer insight into customer behavior by using Anonymous Viewer Analytics (AVA) software to detect the presence of people viewing a digital signage display. This enables customers to collect information on the number of viewers, their gender and age range, what content was viewed, and how much time was spent viewing content.

The uma SKIN product integrates large-scale multitouch LCD displays from MultiTouch Ltd., with the uma semantic web content curation engine, for information delivery. It can be used in corporate or public communication, retail, exhibition and museum scenarios. uma SKIN enables personalized content that tracks users with RFID and NFC technology and detects motion using 3D sensor cameras, enabling passive interaction with visitors. The semantic content curator engine is able to retrieve and contextualize content from various repositories or the web, including web 2.0 sources. uma SKIN’s semantic content curation engine minimizes the effort for content production, editing and curating. Like an organism’s skin, the uma SKIN product provides a display that can be touched and manipulated to generate responses in the form of information.
