There is something about the Ridley Scott classic, Alien, that just resonates with horror fans decades after it’s original release. The franchise has made it’s way into other forms of media, specifically video games with less than stellar results. Scott’s film has also inspired other video games series, like Dead Space, but while it started off with great horror elements it went off the track and fell into the usual action shooter dreck. But the Alien game that SEGA’s Creative Assembly studio has made looks to capture that element of what made the original Alien film so terrifying and remind us of what a horror survival game is supposed to be about.
Alien: Isolation follows Ellen Ripley’s daughter, Amanda, 15 years after the events of the movie ‘Alien’. Amanda is looking for answers in regards to her mother’s disappearance and is given a chance to find out what happened. Of course this leads to her and her crew getting stranded on a space station that is being terrorised by one huge, scary, bad-ass alien. Amanda is not a soldier and is separated from the crew, she has to try and survive this nightmare by herself using her wits. This type of gameplay combined with the art style that harkens back to Ridley Scott’s film look to capture exactly what the original movie did for the horror genre and give it it’s proper due as a video game. The trailer and screenshots look amazing and I can’t wait to see more about this game.
Alien: Isolation will be on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC sometime later this year.
