While I love going to New York Comic Con every year, the con has been getting bigger and bigger each time I go and I have been spending less and less time on the main show floor. I usually hit the spots I really want to see and then mostly hang out at the artist alley or ‘The Block’. As a matter a fact this past year I spent a majority of the time in Artist Alley meeting some of my favorite comic artists and writers and picked up some great artwork. It seems that much like SDCC, the focus of these big cons tends to move away from the base element of the convention, comic books. To remedy this ReedPop has announced a comic book focused convention coming this June called Special Edition: NYC
This smaller two day con will take place in the same location the Artist Alley is usually set up during NYCC. The con will feature artist, writers, and publishers of major comic titles as well as new and upcoming indie labels. It will also give fans the chance to buy and sell from collectors and vendors.
This new comic book festival will provide fans the opportunity to connect with artists, socialize with fellow collectors in a unique setting and search for those always hard to find back issues. The event is a pure celebration of comic book culture created specifically for die-hard comic book fans, creators and publishers.
“New York Comic Con has grown to include so much more than comic books – it is the ultimate pop culture event. Special Edition: NYC will give comic book fans an intimate destination to meet with publishers and special guests,” said Lance Fensterman, Global Senior Vice President of ReedPOP. “Its creation is meeting consumer demand for more comic book experiences and builds upon our mission to provide fans of all kinds the very best in experiential events.”
The convention takes place this June 14-15 at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC. Tickets go on sale February 26th. You can check out all the info here.
