While previously it was only speculation and rumor, today website Venture Beat is reporting that Google’s acquisition of the video game streaming website Twitch is in the bag! The figure of the site being purchased for ONE BILLION DOLLARS (pinkys up) is being reported as accurate. There is no word yet as to when YouTube, the division of Google that is in charge of this acquisition, and Twitch is going to make an official announcement.
While some Twitch users are wary of this deal, this is probably a great thing for casters in terms of having better integration of their video content on YouTube. This also will probably help elevate YT’s Live Streaming platform, which works great but currently is not heavily featured or promoted. We will see what will happen in the near future as this story develops.
