Review: Kingston HyperX Cloud Gaming Headphones

We were fortunate enough to get a close look at Kingston’s HyperX Cloud Gaming headphones. These headphones are built for long term comfort for those long marathon gaming sessions while producing high quality sound. The headset is compatible with PC and PS4, mobile phones and tablets. I got to spend a lot of time with these headphones and they have been the most comfortable gaming headphones I have used so far. I mainly play console games but I’ve tried the headset on my PS4 (plugs directly into the DS4 controller using the included splitter cable), on my computer and my PS3 (mind you I routed the sound from my PS3 through a mixer to get the audio into my headset).Whether I was playing Tomb Raider on PS4, raging at Hotline Miami on the PS3, or listening to Spotify on my computer the HyperX Cloud headsets handled the audio beautifully. I tend to not like headsets that rest directly on my ear lobes (I tend to use earbuds for regular music listening), but the ear cups on the Cloud’s completely cover my ears and left them pain free. The headphones are really durable and made with high quality material, no cheap plastic on these bad boys! Amazingly enough the HyperX Cloud’s offer such a great product as such an affordable price (under $100) just the cherry on top!

Pros:

  • Strong, durable material, aluminum headset frame keeps from losing shape or integrity of headset. The braiding covering the wires is great and offers great protection to prevent wear.
  • Leatherette ear cups cover memory form padding to give comfort for long gaming sessions (there are also swappable velour ear cushions). Leatherette covered headband sits on my head comfortably and the stitching on it looks sharp!
  • Over the ear design block out external sounds while completely immersing you in all audio coming from your game. Sound quality is crisp and strong!
  • Microphone quality is great, and is easily removable when you don’t feel like chatting or if you just want to listen to music.
  • Comes with a carrying bag to hold your headset and all the extra wires if you want to travel with your Cloud’s.
  • Excellent price point! On Amazon it’s available for $79.99 which is easily one of the more affordable, high quality gaming headsets around.
  • Even the box they come in screams ‘High Quality’, Kingston too care to house these headphones in some fancy packaging! Makes you feel like this product is something special.

Cons:

  • Works with PC, PS4, Xbox One (with a separately purchased Xbox One Stereo adapter), mobile devices, and tablets very easily. You can’t really use this headset for your last gen consoles unless you are using  some other equipment to re-route your audio (like I mentioned I use an audio mixer to pull in multiple sounds including my PS3) into the headset.
  • The ear cups don’t swivel in and out so resting the headset around your neck will have the cups resting against your face. This is a minor issue but I hate having to completely take off the headphones when I am doing something quick that I don’t need the headphones on my head.
  • Despite coming with a travel bag, the headphones are not collapse-able so they are a bit bulky and may be something you don’t want to travel around with too much.
  • The ear cups can do too good of a job of blocking out external sounds. They might cause some strife in your home if others are trying to communicate with you while you are gaming.

I am really happy to use these headphones every day and it will take another headset a lot of effort to beat the HyperX Clouds at the moment. If you are looking to purchase a great quality, affordable gaming headset I would highly recommend Kingston’s HyperX Cloud headsets. They are available in black and white colors, on Kingston’s website as well as Amazon and Newegg for purchase.
