Today, Fig, Double Fine and the video game community have made history with the Psychonauts 2 crowdfunding campaign which achieved the largest campaign goal for a video game ($3.3M). The goal was reached through a combination of reward and investment backing.

“The Psychonauts 2 campaign is the first video game crowdfunding campaign to allow unaccredited individuals to invest in the development and publishing of a video game and share in the earnings. This is the first of many campaigns that will allow everyone to financially share in a game, making it a true community experience,” said Justin Bailey, CEO, Fig.

“We’re so grateful to our backers for giving us this chance to continue the story of Raz and the Psychonauts. Knowing that they will be able to participate as investors in the game makes the whole thing feel more fair and more rewarding,” said Tim Schafer, President and CEO, Double Fine Productions.

Psychonauts 2 is under development at Double Fine Productions with Tim Schafer as the Project Lead. The original cult classic Psychonauts was released in 2005 and follows the story of a young psychic named Razputin in his quest to join the Psychonauts—an elite group of international psychic secret agents — as he runs away from the circus and breaks into their secret training facility: Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp. In Psychonauts 2, Raz will realize his dreams and visit the Psychonauts Headquarters as a fully established agent. But when he gets there he finds it’s not the perfect place he expected and he quickly realizes that the Psychonauts need him, more than he needs them.

The successful Psychonauts 2 campaign is the third campaign from Fig and already ranks in the top 10 highest crowdfunded video games of all time with five days still to go. Fig stands as the only video game centric crowdfunding platform that offers reward based backing and gives both accredited and unaccredited investors the ability to participate in the potential success of a game title by investing in preferred tracking stock of Fig’s co-publishing company, which holds a license to certain distribution rights to the title.

Fig recently filed its Regulation A offering statement with the SEC and that document is now under review. Part of the JOBS Act recently made Regulation A accessible as a lite-IPO for offerings of up to $50 million.
